8-1/2" (22.0 cm) McCulloch Hockey Stick Chisel is a specialized instrument made for use in orthopedic spinal procedures. It is specifically used in procedures of the spine such as vertebral osteotomy and is particularly well suited with its slim handle and elongated, flattened profile. The angle at the end prevents the tip of the chisel from pierces and causing injury to the spinal cord during surgery. Osteotome offer significant advantages over drilling because they do not generate heat which can be damaging and also offer an increased level of tactile sensation. This instrument is available in a straight profile at twelve different lengths from 2.0 mm to 24.0 mm in 2 mm increments or in a set of nine. This instrument is also available in a curved profile in seven different lengths from 2.0 to 14.0 mm in 2 mm increments.

This instrument is a flat metal piece that tapers on one end and is slightly curved out of the plane of the handle. Osteotomes have the added benefit of being operated manually and thus the pressure can be adjusted readily as cuts are created and continued through bone. Additionally this osteotome does not have calibration lines. It is available in a vast array of sizes ranging form 4.0 mm to 50 mm and in either a straight or curved profile making them well suited for a wide array of surgical scenarios and surgeon preferences.

straight, 6-1/4" (16.0 cm) US Army Pattern Gouge is a specialized instrument designed for removal of specific segments of bone. This gouge is designed similarly to a chisel but the blade portion features a curvature to it allowing it to be used to scoop up segments. The opposite end of this gouge has a rounded, flat end that can be used with a mallet to increase the driving force to effectively pierce through bone. This gouge is available in three sizes 6.0 mm, 12.0 mm and 18.0 mm making them well suited for larger bones in the spinal surgery and smaller ones for more delicate work on the skull.
