The dark finish also reduces glare under operating room lights. The ronguer features thin footplates and small handles that allow it to be used in delicate areas such as near the spinal cord. In laminectomies the vertebral arch is removed to give additional access to the spinal cord or to relieve pressure on particular segments. It is available in 7", 8" and 9" and in a variety of a variety of bite widths making it highly useful in a vast array of surgical scenarios. The special tubular shaft can be rotated in 45-degree steps in 8 different locking positions, for a range of cutting angles. The shaft may only be released in 1 of the 8 positions, preventing accidental release during surgery. The shaft comes apart in 4 different pieces for easy cleaning and sterilization. In addition, the tubular shape of the shaft makes disassembly faster and cleaning easier, unlike traditional rongeurs which have two sliding (upper and lower) shafts. Additionally these ronguers are available at 90 degrees up or down or 40 degrees up or down with a 5.0 mm and 3.0 mm bite respectively.
